Deaths

So it would seem that your story has come to an end...

Not so.

In the archipelago of LifeAftr, death is a fleeting state of being. The Storyteller knows better than anyone that your death would be an enormous loss for everyone involved; you still have so many tales to weave, after all. In gratitude of your generosity thus far and anticipation of your future adventures, the Storyteller is willing to break their nonpartisan role and return you to LifeAftr’s pages.

However, the Storyteller has their limits. Any character who returns to life will suffer a death penalty of the player’s choosing, which must then be approved by a mod before the character can be revived. At LifeAftr, we encourage choosing a penalty that will challenge your character on a personal level, such as:
[ ♆ ] A highly sociable character losing a communication skill
[ ♆ ] Memory loss, short-term or selective
[ ♆ ] Loss of powers or other heightened abilities
[ ♆ ] Loss of a learned survival skill, such as swimming or crafting
[ ♆ ] Physical impediments for highly active and fit characters
Note that these are only examples, and you the player are welcome to all manner of creativity regarding your penalty. Simply comment to this page using the appropriate template below, and a mod will review your penalty. The location of your character's resurrection (along with any other pertinent information) will be provided upon approval.

Of course, while the Storyteller wishes to see how your character overcomes their new trials, it truly is their intent to help your character return to their former state.

To remove a death penalty, the following conditions must be satisfied:
[ ♆ ] One month has passed since the afflicted character's revival date
[ ♆ ] The afflicted character has participated in a non-compulsory AC since their revival
[ ♆ ] In the case of certain events with high death counts, these requirements may be waived; we will always be certain to forewarn you if this will be the case
Once these criteria have been met, you may fill out and submit the form below. On the day following mod approval, your character will awaken with their penalty removed. Whether this is an immediate removal or a gradual one is up to player discretion.

Remember: you must participate in a non-compulsory AC before your penalty removal can be approved. This can be submitted any time via the standing Storytelling Post, so long as the provided thread takes place after the character's revival.

As LifeAftr is a survival setting in which death is very possible, three deaths within a six-month time period are permitted. This count will reset after six months have passed from the first death. Be warned that exceeding this limitation will be considered a drop. Also note that penalties will stack, and only one penalty may be removed per AC round.

However, we understand that some characters are very involved and risk-taking, and we encourage such participation! Because of this, we will take into consideration high levels of activity and involvement in non-compulsory AC in instances where a character has maxed their death counter. Additionally, game events that include a high risk of death may come with a free pass on a death count and/or penalty. Such caveats will be noted within the event information itself. In those instances, characters will not need to participate in non-compulsory AC to remove their penalty.

Death Penalty: Extreme physical weakness; Edward will be reduced to the strength of a young child, and tire easily. In addition, his hearing will be over-sensitive so that shouts and other similarly loud sounds will incapacitate him the same as a high-pitched noise would.

Death Penalty: Inability to fight in any manner: all of the Batter's Competences will be sealed and he'll suffer some serious bad luck if he tries another manner of physical attack that will make them fail (oh look he whiffed, oh look there's an upturned root, oh look there's a pitfall, ect). In other words the Batter will have to find a way to deal with confrontations without resorting to violence.

Death Penalty: Jaune will lose his connection to his aura, and with it all his strength and stamina, other than that of an ordinary person, along with his ability to heal any injuries. Injuries will scar as they normally would and in addition, his fighting knowledge remains but muscle memory and abilities have been significantly weakened.
