Applications

Applications
Due to LifeAftr approaching endgame, Applications are currently CLOSED, with the exception of returning players and/or characters.

Additionally, please note that applications received on Saturdays may take up to 24 hours to receive a response, particularly if an app is received last minute. Applications received after 12pm est on Saturdays will not be processed until the following weekend.

Prior to starting your application, please check the Taken Page to ensure they are not already in play. Please ensure that you have Reserved the character you wish to apply for; keep in mind that we do not accept application challenges!

There are a total of four application templates which can be used to apply to LifeAftr:

Canon Universe: your standard application. For a character with a solid canon background who is not being brought in from another game, this is the application for you.

Lesser Background: for characters who may not have much canon background to go off of, such as a silent protagonist or NPC. For further clarification on what constitutes for the lesser background app, check our FAQ.

Original Character: for all your OC needs!

CRAU: if importing from another game, please use the CRAU app. This applies whether the character is canon, lesser, or OC. This is also the template to use if you are re-applying your character with their previous LifeAftr memories.

Note: If importing an OC or Lesser Background character, refer to the respective application form to see the judging standards for each field.

Canon Universe
Character Information

Name:
Series:
Appearance: Image link(s) or a written description of the character’s appearance.
Age: If no canon age has been provided, a headcanon age or estimate is acceptable.
Canon Point:
Canon History: Please include a link to a wiki or information sheet for our reference. A write-up is allowed and encouraged for applicants who feel this is insufficient.
Personality: As much or little as needed to provide sufficient insight into the character’s personality.
Abilities: The character's talents, skills, and/or powers. Keep in mind that some powers may need nerfing in accordance with the FAQ. Additionally, be warned that any powers not outlined in this section and used in-game (unless learned through IC development) will be treated as powergaming. Players are free and encouraged to suggest nerfs; if they do not, the mods will provide information on nerfs upon your character's acceptance.
Inventory: Please list the items upon your character's person on arrival, including the amount of each item (i.e., how much ammunition they might have). A brief explanation of each item's purpose and function is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that all items will have suffered water damage unless sealed, and that technology in particular will have been affected as detailed in the FAQ even if sealed.

Sample

A written RP sample to present your character's voice. This may be done through an existing RP thread or a mod-issued Q&A, the processes of which are described below. Please note that in the interest of processing all applications in a timely manner, we will no longer issue a Q&A by request to applications that have already provided a thread sample. Applicants must choose one or the other. As TDM rewards are tied to thread samples, it is highly recommended to use a thread from the TDM as your sample if you have one.

Thread Sample: Thread samples do not need to be within Lifeaftr’s TDM, however, we do ask that they be pertinent to the style of character you’re apping in (Ex: if CRAU, they should be from the game they are coming from). Additionally, the sample must have been threaded within a year prior to the application date.

Q&A: For those new to playing their character, who have been out of RP for a time, or who just prefer something different, you may request a Q&A from the mods to be answered ICly. When submitting your app, just note your preference for this here, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

Lesser Background
Character Information

Name:
Series:
Appearance: Image link(s) or a written description of the character’s appearance.
Age: If no canon age has been provided, a headcanon age or estimate is acceptable.
Canon Point:
Canon History: The character’s role in their canon, how they relate to their world, and how they got to that point in their life. This can be detailed or ambiguous, but should show appreciative insight into the character. This section should primarily be written out for canons with significant player impact on the story, but we would appreciate the inclusion of a link to a wiki or information page, if one exists.
Canon Personality: Detail and assess as much about the character’s fundamental personality as possible using examples from canon material.
Personality Shifts: If the character is from a series with significant player choice, or if they’re an NPC who is affected by said choices, detail this particular version’s thought processes. Leave N/A if the character is a true silent protagonist with a mostly linear story or an NPC unaffected by player decisions.

To submit your application, please enter a comment using the template below.

We ask that you put your character name, canon, application type, and whether or not you have reserved your character in the subject header. For readability purposes, we also ask that you link to your application on your journal instead of pasting it into the comment itself.

Only submit your application once you are sure it is complete; as apps are processed throughout the duration of the round, we have no way of tracking if any edits are made after the fact. Likewise, we will only be issuing TDM rewards to those who have proofs at the initial time of submission. TDM rewards are eligible for the TDM corresponding to the current app round only, and require a sustained thread as opposed to merely a top-level.

Those that do not respond to their revisions, Q&A, or acceptance notices within 72 hours will be automatically rejected.

OH, HAHA. You mean the segment that I totally didn’t forget to go back and add more to like I planned? woopsie.

There were several events that had lasting impressions on Rin during his time in the Carnival. For one thing, he’s now exceedingly wary of parties — almost every time there was a large scale party or celebration, either held by the Carnival or otherwise, it ended in disaster. A world called “The Celebration” was attacked by demonic vampires resulting in devastating losses to the Carnival and a subsequent trip to (a) Hell. The Carnival had to infiltrate a Manticore Prince’s castle, where they were expected to dance at a ball or suffer. Then, when the group went to a bathhouse world to finally relax, an antagonistic fae called the Huntsman attacked. So to say that Rin has a little mild PTSD about parties is an understatement. He’ll be very reluctant to join in festivities without a serious backup plan.

During his time, Rin formed a few important bonds. Notably, his father figure Shiro Fujimoto was present for about a month or so, and Rin was able to apologize to him and put much of his guilt about his death to rest. Additionally, there was an event where the entire population of the Carnival was transported to a version of Portland, Oregon, and inserted into “normal” lives. Here, Rin got to experience what it was like to grow up fairly normally with a father (NPC’d Shiro) and a mother (Blue Diamond from Steven Universe), and as an only child to boot. Even after regaining his original memories and life, he and Blue Diamond remained close until she departed.

Rin also became something of a caretaker at the Carnival for a group of fiery bat demons originating from the vampire hell dimension. In addition to that, he cared for his Trapinch Nosh until she evolved into Vibrava and then Flygon. After his friend Sora left, he also adopted his pokémon, a luxio named Sparky, who is Sir Not Appearing In This Game.

Interestingly, Rin was not particularly unsettled by the changes to his psyche and physique caused by fae magic. This is mainly because he’s right on the heels of having awakened as a half-demon — he’d already experienced one giant life-changing experience, what were a few more? Of course, Rin was subjected to fewer mental changes than some of his fellow carnies, including his brother… Rin has yet to notice that Yukio can no longer tell lies. Rin has managed to hold on to his human morality quite well for a kid who spent two years in a faerie carnival working for an ancient fae with dubious morals. He’s a bit quicker to take things that don’t necessarily belong to him, but he’s certainly not morphed into blue/orange morality.

Rin’s main job before the Carnival turned into a faerie war crusade was to cook. The head cook departed soon after his arrival, and Rin more or less took over the kitchen. He sharpened his cooking skills even further, and learned to use all kinds of strange and exotic ingredients. He even put the aforementioned Hellbats to work as plate warmers and heat sources in ovens and smokers. When the Carnival’s focus became setting things right in the multiverse, Rin put his empathy (and shounen chutzpah) to work as a diplomat of sorts, trying to ease tensions between factions and minimize fighting.

I'll be using this journal and unscreening is cool with me!

Also, when you say "nerfed outright", re, Nosh's moves, does that mean they're just basically just forgotten?
