Applications
Due to LifeAftr approaching endgame, Applications are currently CLOSED, with the exception of returning players and/or characters.


Additionally, please note that applications received on Saturdays may take up to 24 hours to receive a response, particularly if an app is received last minute. Applications received after 12pm est on Saturdays will not be processed until the following weekend.

Prior to starting your application, please check the Taken Page to ensure they are not already in play. Please ensure that you have Reserved the character you wish to apply for; keep in mind that we do not accept application challenges!

There are a total of four application templates which can be used to apply to LifeAftr:

Canon Universe: your standard application. For a character with a solid canon background who is not being brought in from another game, this is the application for you.

Lesser Background: for characters who may not have much canon background to go off of, such as a silent protagonist or NPC. For further clarification on what constitutes for the lesser background app, check our FAQ.

Original Character: for all your OC needs!

CRAU: if importing from another game, please use the CRAU app. This applies whether the character is canon, lesser, or OC. This is also the template to use if you are re-applying your character with their previous LifeAftr memories.


Note: If importing an OC or Lesser Background character, refer to the respective application form to see the judging standards for each field.

Players are free and encouraged to suggest nerfs; if they do not, the mods will provide information on nerfs upon your character's acceptance.
Inventory: Please list the items upon your character's person on arrival, including the amount of each item (i.e., how much ammunition they might have). A brief explanation of each item's purpose and function is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that all items will have suffered water damage unless sealed, and that technology in particular will have been affected as detailed in the FAQ even if sealed.

A written RP sample to present your character's voice. This may be done through an existing RP thread or a mod-issued Q&A, the processes of which are described below. Please note that in the interest of processing all applications in a timely manner, we will no longer issue a Q&A by request to applications that have already provided a thread sample. Applicants must choose one or the other. As TDM rewards are tied to thread samples, it is highly recommended to use a thread from the TDM as your sample if you have one.

Canon Point:
Canon History: The character’s role in their canon, how they relate to their world, and how they got to that point in their life. This can be detailed or ambiguous, but should show appreciative insight into the character. This section should primarily be written out for canons with significant player impact on the story, but we would appreciate the inclusion of a link to a wiki or information page, if one exists.
Canon Personality: Detail and assess as much about the character’s fundamental personality as possible using examples from canon material.
Personality Shifts: If the character is from a series with significant player choice, or if they’re an NPC who is affected by said choices, detail this particular version’s thought processes. Leave N/A if the character is a true silent protagonist with a mostly linear story or an NPC unaffected by player decisions.
Abilities: The character's talents, skills, and/or powers. Keep in mind that some powers may need nerfing in accordance with the FAQ. Additionally, be warned that any powers not outlined in this section and used in-game (unless learned through IC development) will be treated as powergaming. To submit your application, please enter a comment using the template below.

We ask that you put your character name, canon, application type, and whether or not you have reserved your character in the subject header. For readability purposes, we also ask that you link to your application on your journal instead of pasting it into the comment itself.

Only submit your application once you are sure it is complete; as apps are processed throughout the duration of the round, we have no way of tracking if any edits are made after the fact. Likewise, we will only be issuing TDM rewards to those who have proofs at the initial time of submission. TDM rewards are eligible for the TDM corresponding to the current app round only, and require a sustained thread as opposed to merely a top-level.

Those that do not respond to their revisions, Q&A, or acceptance notices within 72 hours will be automatically rejected.

In regards to nerfs:

[ ♆ ] As per our spell slot policy, you may choose five of Makoto's Persona skills for use in-game. Please reply to this acceptance notice with the skills that you wish to keep; mind that the following nerfs will be applied:
  • Normal skills that hit multiple targets have a maximum damage of minor
  • Normal skills that hit one target have a maximum damage of medium
  • Any skills that deal massive or severe damage to multiple targets now have a maximum damage of medium
  • Any skills that deal massive or severe damage to one target now have a maximum damage of heavy
  • Healing spells will work, but cannot heal fully from the brink of death or return a dead person to life
  • Miscellaneous skills will be nerfed on a case-by-case basis

    • [ ♆ ] Nerd Talk will come into play when interacting with NPCs. When performing rolls related to charisma, Makoto will get a +2 modifier, as well as the ability to re-roll one failed roll per log without the modifier. This applies to any sapient NPC, including Deities. Please let a mod know when you would like to roll against an NPC!

    [ ♆ ] Shadow Factorization will allow Makoto to perform a save roll in certain circumstances. Once per log, if Makoto encounters a situation (combat or otherwise) that requires a roll and fails, she will get the chance for a save roll to mitigate the consequences. While we are happy to leave discretion for this ability to you, feel free to contact a mod if you have any questions or advice when performing this roll!

    [ ♆ ] An exhaustion caveat will be applied to magic; the more Makoto uses her Persona, the more tired she will become, and must eventually recharge her energy at a mana pool or else risk collapsing.

    [ ♆ ] If Makoto wishes to change out her skills, or if she "levels up" enough to learn new skills, she will be able to swap her skillset out by spending IC favors with the Storyteller.


    In regards to inventory:
    [ ♆ ] Makoto's cell function will have suffered water damage, and will not function.

    [ ♆ ] Her gun, similar to the cognitive world, will become a fully functional weapon when she is in the dreaming world of Mu. Similarly, her battle armor may also materialize in Mu.


    Makoto will arrive with a knapsack upon which she will find her name embossed with thread. Within, the following items have been supplied:
    (1) salted fish jerky
    (1) knife
    (1) roll of fishing line
    (1) toothbrush
    (1) Stone of Farspeech, whose functions are detailed HERE


    Due to your participation in the Test Drive Meme, Makoto has been awarded a Demonic Circlet! Cute, isn't it?

    While these horns might look dollar-store cheap, they're anything but. The only instruction to accompany them is a tag at one end that reads: "BURN!" As it happens, this is precisely what they do. Once one dons the horns, they only must speak the word "burn" aloud in order to set their target, be it person, animal, or object, well and truly aflame.

    This will only work once before the headband uses up all its magic, and will be nothing more than a lovely accessory, so use it well.

    Understood! Here are the nerfs for your chosen skillset:

    [ ♆ ] FREIDYNE: As above.
    [ ♆ ] MAFREIDYNE: As above.
    [ ♆ ] DIARAHAN: As above.
    [ ♆ ] DEKUNA: Makoto and any companions in her line of sight will be able to shake off the effects of a debuff spell applied by another force. This ability will have a 3/day limit.
    [ ♆ ] MARAKUKAJA: For a limited time (3 mins), Makoto and any companions in her line of sight will have an increased resistance to blunt force or elements used against them. This spell may also be used once per day as a +3 modifier to any fortitude check Minako might do!
