Item Requests

There's something my character wants or needs!

Should your character require an object, specific or general, the Storyteller may be willing to listen to your request and oblige accordingly. However, there are some stipulations to said requests - partially due to the Storyteller's own limitations, and partially due to their own...fickle nature.

When considering and items request, please keep the following limitations in mind:

I) TECHNOLOGY
LifeAftr does not support the vast majority of technology without a form of protection, bestowed and maintained exclusively by the Storyteller. The ability to both retrieve and maintain an object that advanced is somewhat beyond their grasp at the moment. Unless said object is necessary to your character's continued existence (in which case, it will have come through to LifeAftr with them, initially), the cost of repairing and sustaining anything sufficiently advanced that maintains itself electronically will be higher than something that does not.

II) SIZE
The Storyteller cannot retrieve objects of immense breadth and height, as those strain the limits of their abilities. At the moment, they cannot retrieve anything larger than your average armchair.

III) SPECIFICITY
A specific object from the character's home of deep sentimental value (such as a character's treasured family heirloom) will have a different worth than supplies of a more general nature (such as a package of seeds for crops), and will require more effort on the Storyteller's part, and therefore a greater offering. As per the FAQ, only two companions, including pokemon, may be brought in at any time. Please only make a request if this two companion limit has not been reached. Any requested companions will be subject to nerfing prior to being accepted.

IV) RELEVANCE
While in theory, characters are able to request anything that they can think of, there may be instances where a limitation will be imposed to prevent excessive loopholing of nerfs.

In cases like these, the mods will look for the relativity of the request to the character: if they are a non-magical being requesting a magical item from another world, for example, it's unlikely that their wish will be granted. On the flipside, a character who is magical and asks for an item with powers outside of their current abilities may be able to acquire it, but at a higher favor cost. In-universe, this will be explained as the Storyteller being unable to significantly alter the natural progression of a character's story.

Generally, this will be handled on a case-by-case basis; always feel free to contact a mod if you're unsure about what the specifics might be!

Bear in mind that the Storyteller will not exercise their power to bring in basic resources that already exist on the archipelago, or anything that characters cannot conceivably make or build on their own. If you have any concerns about what this might entail, don't hesitate to ask - or check our Resources Page to make sure that what you're requesting isn't already there.

At this current point in time, requesting facilities is not available.

What's the catch?

A good question. The Storyteller does not perform favors for free. This is where non-compulsory AC comes into play! Offerings of juicy stories and tantalizing pieces of your character's personal narrative may be enough to satiate the Storyteller's curiosity and power their efforts to retrieve your requested item. In general, however, bear in mind that you will get what you give: a story that's more lies and omissions than truth may yield a lackluster item or something slightly off-brand, while an offering of great narrative import may allow your character to pay it forward, if you will, or net them a little something extra.

It's Rudder Madness
The night that Laurent, Roy, Sans and Muffet make their request, they will all find themselves as guests to the Storyteller's fireside dream. The... upright dolphin calmly advises that they have supplied the boat, which will be docked at Islet 2 for ease of access.

In addition, they kindly advise that within the storage compartment are seven life jackets- all used, but certainly no worse for wear.

♆ A few things of note! ♆

♆ Welcome to the wonderful boat known as a pontoon! As depicted in the image, this pontoon comes with a large "RENT ME" sign painted on the back-- though the numbers have very hastily been scratched off. Don't... don't mind that, guys. As a bonus, the Pontoon has a capacity of seven adults, with seven life jackets supplied. As the pontoon is quite versatile, characters may request to rearrange or even add an additional story to the boat- at the cost of it's current speed.

♆ When not being used for inter-island travel, pontoons are fantastic fishing boats, and would be highly useful in acquiring further resources off the shores of Enso and the islets. With it's occupancy limits, the boat can withstand a load of around 2204 pounds; in future, acquiring a few nets that can be dragged behind the moving vehicle may not be a bad way to go!

♆ The pontoon will fair relatively well on the ocean- at least, in a small channel like the one between Enso and Monsun. Deviating too off course will certainly be asking for trouble, as the pontoon is not meant for extended sea voyages. Going at a fair pace of 29km per hour (15 knots), with the addition of several bodies, characters will be going at a fair pace of 24km (13 knots).

♆ Travel time from Enso to Monsun, with a distance approximately that of the English channel, is approximately 10-12 hours; the more occupants, the longer the journey. Whilst most engines would require petrol to motor, characters will be able to fill this particular engine with water from the mana pool- characters will be capable of making up to four one-way voyages prior to requiring more water.

♆ Lastly, voyages between islands will require a search request to be conducted. At this time, a total of three RNG rolls will be conducted to evaluate the ease of their path. Further developments to the vessel, such as the inclusion of weapons, defensive materials, or magical repellents will increase the chances of safe passage. Use of the boat between the islets and Enso will not require RNG, so please feel free to take your new vessel for a spin!

Camping: How In-tents
When trio wakes, they will discover the addition of a sprawling tent cast across the desert sands of the C3 region. The amount of stories offered to its manifestation has allowed it to be very spacious indeed.

The mana pool, too, be found on a slightly raised dais of sculpted sandstone near the river's edge, not far from the tent. It should function just as well as any of the others on LifeAftr.

♆ Characters may travel to any of the mana pools on Monsun, Ensō, and the islet homes as they wish, as long as they're certain to concentrate in specifying which mana pool on Monsun they wish to travel to.

He wants enough to help as many people as possible. If there are any favors not burnt up in this, he'll just sink them back into getting more of whatever they get overall.

Like A Lightning Bolt
The morning after Keith's request has been made, the following items will appear for appropriation within the antechamber of the Storyteller's chamber:

40 first aid kits, each containing the following.

15 lanterns filled with a mysterious glowing liquid; much like the necklaces gifted to survivors in December, only far more powerful. A faint outline of a floating sigil can be seen within. A rather rudimentary visual instruction has been inscribed on the top of the cork for activating and deactivating the lantern's glow.

5 wicker baskets filled with fresh Turny and Cubsbane.

♆ As stated, these items will appear not among Keith's belongings, but within the Storyteller's Temple. The night of his request, the Storyteller will appear to him in a dream informing him of such.

Drawn Together


The night Ren makes her request, she dreams of a hallway.

It is a hallway that may seem familiar to her, but wholly different. Though moonlight still blinks through cavernous gaps in the walls, the rubble and overgrowth are vanished, as though peeled away by an unseen force. The passage is rather short, it turns out, extending a mere twenty or so feet before opening into a chamber.

Roughly the length and width of a basketball court, with a ceiling that stretches high overhead, the chamber is large and cavernous, such that one's voice will echo if raised loud enough. In the center of the room sits a raised platform with a round divot, ashes from old fires smeared into the stone. No fire burns at present -- the only light in the room comes from glittering ropes of moonlight weaving through square windows carved high in the walls.

Above all, the room seems enormous, but quite empty.

If not for the drawings.

They stretch across the room in all corners: the walls, the ceiling, even the very floor she walks upon. Hundreds upon hundreds of drawings. Smudged and ancient, penned in white streaks of chalk, many of them faded to near-indiscernible ruin. The doodles are richly variant; some are masterful, drawn with thick, confident lines, while others seem childlike and wobbly, but every inch of marked landscape glows bright silver in the moonlight, as if deemed equal. On the eastern wall, a figure with horns and enormous wings soars over a drawing of an animal pawing at the earth. The ceiling high above is scattered with round little shapes with long tails, flocking around a faceless person. A dotted line winds aimlessly around the floor, leading to nowhere in particular, weaving its own path through fields of featureless people wielding swords, sewing clothes, building homes, scaling mountains, diving into waters, drawing bows and arrows, picking fruit, singing with musical notes floating about their heads, knelt in silence at an altar, gathering in droves around campfires with a lumpy rabbit at their center.

It is a room full of stories.

And yet, everywhere Ren might turn, there seems to be room somewhere to draw. Perhaps because each time she looks somewhere different, the drawings seem to have shifted: the round little shapes on the ceiling have vanished, replaced with an enormous, shapeless beast rising from the ocean, gazing expressionless towards land. What was once a warrior slaying a horrific creature now appears to be the same person cradling a child. There seems to be no end to the stories, which sometimes appear to move in the moonlight, putting their tale into motion.

"There is always room," says a bunny with dark, wet eyes from the center of the chamber. They move their tome to one arm and look high above, their ears flopping back. "And always there shall be."

The dream slowly fades out of reality.

The chamber, when Ren awakens, does not.

♆ A few things of note! ♆

♆ The Chamber of Glyphs has been unlocked in the Storyteller's temple! This room is accessible at all times, with no stipulation for use.
♆ The chamber contains a firepit, which must manually be lit by characters, and a waist-high urn of seemingly endless chalk for those without their own writing utsensils. However, attempts to carry the chalk out of the room will result in it crumbling to dust within moments.
♆ The drawings in the Chamber of Glyphs seem to change from hour to hour; consequently, characters who wish to draw there themselves will find that there is always room to do so. Their own doodles may even reappear in the future!
♆ Crude drawings, lamentably, will not reappear. They may also disappear within minutes and be replaced with a rather unflattering portrait of the perpetrator.
♆ Written words, strangely, will not reappear in drawings. The force powering this room does not seem inclined to them.
♆ The Chamber of Glyphs will now be accessible in Mu during each monthly Storytelling. Characters who wish to supplement their story in drawing form need only ask, and the Storyteller will whisk them and their audience temporarily to the chamber, which mirrors itself in reality exactly. Stories depicted here will appear among the drawings in the real world.

Item(s) requested: Part One: (Which I have no idea how much it will cost if it is doable) Ever since Prompto got him the coffee plants way back after their arrival, Ignis has wanted to return the favor. At first he was going to ask for a chocobo for the blonde, but he kind of gotten beaten to the punch on that one. (Over-thinking isn't a good thing sometimes.) In the end, that's okay, though, because he's thought of something else he would like to ask about for his friend.

He would like the storyteller to remove the barcode that is on Prompto's wrist. Not only does this mark him as non-human, but also as the 'enemy.' While the boys have told him that the manner of his birth doesn't matter, the barcode is still a reminder of all the doubts and insecurities that the blonde has.

(This has been discussed with Prompto's mun. If you want a tag for permission, just let me know!)

Part Two: If Ignis has enough favors left, he would like to ask for a bit of...assistance in the clothing field.

Hi, Neko! Unfortunately, the Storyteller's abilities stop at effecting physical change to people's bodies - their abilities are not the same as those of the floating islands. Just as they are not capable of curing Ignis of his blindness, they're not capable of removing the barcode.

Aw, I was afraid of that. Hmm...moving to the alternate plan then! Would the Storyteller be able to produce some supplies for someone to do simple (simple as in, just black ink, not colored etc) tattooing with?

That might be possible, yes. There are two options here.

The first would be extremely rudimentary equipment for a DIY "stick and poke" tattoo, which would involve a needle and pen ink. These tend to uncomfortable and prone to infection, but will cost significantly less.

The second would be much more refined equipment. A handheld tattoo machine, for example, would probably require two offerings - one for the machine and one to brand it with the sigil that would allow it to be powered and functional. Then there's a smattering of tubes, grips, needles, and ink, as well as the supplies necessary to sterilize the tattoo and equipment to prevent infection: cleaning soap, antiseptic, hospital scissors, tweezers, gloves, etc. This would obviously take a great deal more offerings. Of course, you could simply forgo the sterilization process entirely and chance magical healing instead.

Considering this is for one of his bros and Ignis is not the type to go cheap, especially when it comes to healing etc, if he goes second option--full out--what would it cost him? The second part of his request can always wait. Lord knows I've had it wait months already! LOL!

Two offerings for the tattoo machine, as mentioned before. That's the most costly piece since it's electronic and would need a sigil to function. One additional offering would be enough for the bare minimum supplies for one tattoo, and a further additional offering would cover the cost of the sterilization equipment - again, just the bare minimum. Unless Ignis is planning on moonlighting as a tattoo artist, we could cut the cost off at four offerings for the tattoo equipment so he still has two to burn on the clothes!

♆ Ideally, more medical equipment would be included. However, the Storyteller's limit were already stretched retrieving this many small items - if there are problems with sterilization, it's likely that healing magic can fill the gaps.

Also, if they can swing it, please get her a pillow. Just a nice soft fluffy luxury down pillow all her own. Sleeping on the ground with various internal injuries is hell, she's not gonna waste a whole favor on an entire bed but just let her have this small taste of luxury if they can.

♆ Greater Invisibility retains the 1 minute limitation as per the link provided. In addition, objects cannot be larger than 10 square feet in size to be turned invisible by Taako.

♆ Major Image also retains the 10 minute spell time limitation. In addition, Lup will not be capable of creating illusions of creatures or objects over 1 square feet in size.

♆ After this request has been completed, Lup has one favor remaining.

Then, like an afterthought: "Also I need a hairtie."

Offering: Two for the lighter, one for the paint. He'll deal if he doesn't get everything he wants from the second list, but the lighter is Incredibly Important to him.

Just a Spark
The night of Connor's request, the Storyteller will appear to him briefly in his dreams. They will explain, in brief, that he will find that the lighter provided will automatically replenish itself for six months. This will only require one offering.

The second request requires no dream or explanation, as far as the Storyteller is concerned. When Connor wakes, he will discover among his belongings a gallon of white paint (the kind intended for houses, as specified), a tube of blue acrylic paint, a tube of black acrylic paint, and a 1" wide paintbrush.

♆ A few things of note! ♆

♆ Between the two of them, the lighter and the paint only required two offerings total. For three, the Storyteller would be able to provide a 2" paintbrush and a hairtie...and possibly something extra, to make up for the fuss.
♆ Only the lighter granted via this request will refill automatically. Be careful not to lose it, or another request will need to be made to replace it.
