Applications

Due to LifeAftr approaching endgame, Applications are currently CLOSED, with the exception of returning players and/or characters.

Additionally, please note that applications received on Saturdays may take up to 24 hours to receive a response, particularly if an app is received last minute. Applications received after 12pm est on Saturdays will not be processed until the following weekend.

Prior to starting your application, please check the Taken Page to ensure they are not already in play. Please ensure that you have Reserved the character you wish to apply for; keep in mind that we do not accept application challenges!

There are a total of four application templates which can be used to apply to LifeAftr:

Canon Universe: your standard application. For a character with a solid canon background who is not being brought in from another game, this is the application for you.

Lesser Background: for characters who may not have much canon background to go off of, such as a silent protagonist or NPC. For further clarification on what constitutes for the lesser background app, check our FAQ.

Original Character: for all your OC needs!

CRAU: if importing from another game, please use the CRAU app. This applies whether the character is canon, lesser, or OC. This is also the template to use if you are re-applying your character with their previous LifeAftr memories.

Note: If importing an OC or Lesser Background character, refer to the respective application form to see the judging standards for each field.

Submission Form

To submit your application, please enter a comment using the template below.
We ask that you put your character name, canon, application type, and whether or not you have reserved your character in the subject header. For readability purposes, we also ask that you link to your application on your journal instead of pasting it into the comment itself.

Only submit your application once you are sure it is complete; as apps are processed throughout the duration of the round, we have no way of tracking if any edits are made after the fact. Likewise, we will only be issuing TDM rewards to those who have proofs at the initial time of submission. TDM rewards are eligible for the TDM corresponding to the current app round only, and require a sustained thread as opposed to merely a top-level.

Those that do not respond to their revisions, Q&A, or acceptance notices within 72 hours will be automatically rejected.

In regards to nerfs, the following restrictions will apply to his abilities:

♆ FORGETTING: we ask that Cole has a permissions post for this ability on his journal. This should be limited to minor memory alterations, and the more often it is used on a character, the lesser its effect.

♆ INVISIBILITY: may only affect people or creatures he has recently made forget him- no avoiding CR here, Cole. Invisibility comes with a limitation of ten minutes, after which, he will need to recover for the next 24 hours.

♆ EMPATHY: will also require a permissions post on Cole's journal. This ability is restricted to player characters only, and is limited to one person at a time- he will not be capable of reading the emotions of people connected to a character.

♆ TELEPORTATION: is restricted to what is within his line of sight- he cannot transport himself across great distances.

Due to your participation in the Test Drive Meme, Cole has been awarded a sweet clover! And they said interspecies communication wasn't possible.

This small glass jar contains nothing more than a single, four-leafed clover, but as the label on the bottle will suggest, it is no ordinary plant. The bottle reads quite clearly:

"Animals find me irresistible ;)"

And when one uncorks the bottle, they will find that this is precisely the case. Any fauna in the vicinity, prey or predator, bird or beast, will find themselves drawn to the clover as though magnetized. The effect will last until the clover is devoured or stolen by said fauna, or until the bottle is stoppered - whichever comes first.

No matter how careful the owner is, the clover will cease to be fresh after ten hours of use, and it will lose its effect entirely.

In regards to nerfs...we're terribly sorry. There's a few.

♆ SHOUTING: Sev will be restricted to one shout per day, and limited to a total of five shouts known upon arrival- requests can be made in future to unlock further shouts. Clear Skies and Soul Tear are not usable within LifeAftr; the following can be selected:

Aura whisper:

only on the square Sev is currently on.

Battle fury:

50% chance of failure (we recommend rolling or RNGing these, to keep with the spirit of the game)

Cyclone:

event only.

Disarm:

50% chance of failure on a player character.

Dismay:

50% chance of failure.

Dragon Aspect:

unrestricted.

Drain vitality:

50% chance of failure on player characters and NPCs.

Elemental fury:

♆ RESIST DISEASE: we recommend RNGing a 50% chance of being affected upon contact with contaminated food or in-game infections.

♆ WATERBREATHING: Sev will only be capable of swimming out 50 feet into the ocean,
before her body becomes too heavy to move. Her only option will be to turn back, at this point-
but hey. At least she won't drown?

♆ NIGHTINGALE SUBTERFUGE: If you would like to keep this in game, we suggest a permissions post that allows for player characters to conduct a "will save"- both you and the player in question RNG between 1-10, with the highest number winning out. Nightingale strife will remain nerfed entirely.

♆ FLAMES and HEALING: both come with a magical exhaustion caveat; the more Sev uses these in a day, the more she will exhaust herself. Healing is also restricted to two severe wounds per day, or four moderate. In this instance, a broken bone would be considered a moderate wound.

♆ TRANSMUTE: is restricted to once per day, on no item larger than a medicine ball.

♆ ENCHANCEMENT: Sev will be capable of requesting further soul gems from the Storyteller in future, and there will be an additional chance of receiving them through RNG exploration. However, she has a limit of imbuing one item with an enchantment per day. Additionally, the souls she will be capable of trapping must be from creatures found throughout the islands; she will be unable to attain the souls of player characters or plot-relevant NPCs.

Certain superstitions used to regard a severed rabbit's foot as a good luck talisman. This one is no exception. It possesses three dark claws, signifying the fact that the rabbit's foot has three complete uses. Rubbing one of the claws will activate the foot's powers of incredible good luck, after which the claw will crumble off the foot and dissipate into dust. For one full hour, the user will relish in good fortune. Perhaps their searches will always yield the discovery of food and resources, or maybe they'll find that attackers will only just miss them, no matter how they try.

After three uses, the rabbit's foot will be good for nothing but an odd cosmetic ornament.

In regards to nerfs: We are happy for Tataru to keep most of her powers, but magic on LifeAftr comes with an exhaustion caveat - the more those powers are used, the quicker Tataru will tire, and she will need to spend time near a mana pool to "recharge" if she overexerts herself. The Emerald Carbuncle will similarly only be able to be summoned once per day and will disperse should it leave Tataru's line of sight.

In regards to nerfs: We are happy for Lunafreya to keep most of her powers as per your proposed nerfs, but we would like to add that magic on LifeAftr comes with an exhaustion caveat - the more those powers are used, the quicker Lunafreya will tire, and she will need to spend time near a mana pool to "recharge" if she overexerts herself. Her repelling light blasts will have a maximum use of three times per day before she reaches her limit, and her defensive wards cannot exceed the radius that would encompass a single tent. Likewise, said wards cannot keep out anything larger than your average wolf.

Her skill as an Oracle similarly may have some use down the line...

In regards to nerfs, the following will apply:

♆ GODHOOD: Initially, Amaterasu will be limited to 8 ink pots, with the potential to earn pots back via Item Requests. The additional nerfs to her Godhood are acceptable as indicated in the application, with exhaustion caveats as per discussed with the mods.

♆ CELESTIAL BRUSH: As discussed with the mods prior to this acceptance notice, Amaterasu will be allowed five Celestial Brush skill slots, with the option to discuss swapping slots out with the Storyteller. In addition, given she is a sun goddess, she will be allowed to keep a passive form of Sunrise as outlined below.

♆ SUNRISE: While Amaterasu will not be capable of raising the sun, she will seem to emit the sun's energy itself, providing warmth and affecting creatures and objects that react to sunlight. Additionally, so long as she remains in direct sunlight herself, Amaterasu's ink pot regeneration will be increased to one pot per hour rather than one every two hours.

♆ POWERSLASH: This power is acceptably nerfed as per the aplication.

♆ WATERSPOUT: This power is acceptable; however, Deluge will be nixed. Additionally, Amaterasu will not be capable of sourcing this power from her Divine Instruments.

♆ BLOOM: The suggested nerfs to Vine and Lily Pad are acceptable. In addition to those suggested for Bloom, Amaterasu will not be capable of maintaining a large quantity of grown vegetables at one time, as we do not wish to discourage natural farming by PCs. The limitation on this caveat may be left to player discretion.

♆ FLAMEBURST: Amaterasu may only move fire 10ft from its source. Additionally, she cannot source fire from her Divine Instruments.

♆ THUNDERSTORM: This power is acceptably nerfed as per the application, with the additional caveat that Amaterasu will not be capable of creating storms herself. Finally, Amaterasu cannot source lightning from her Divine Instruments.

Bloodlust: similar to her Ryslig companions, Kanaya will arrive to LifeAftr with a sigil tattooed on her back. In the dream linked above, the Storyteller will explain that so long as Kanaya makes sure to recharge it at the mana pools at intervals, it will suppress her carnivorous instincts in full...suppressing said instincts is,
of course, very highly encouraged.

Flying: Kanaya will have an exhaustion caveat applied to her flight; the longer she's in the air, the more tired she will become. In addition to this, she will be incapable of flying in squares of the map that have not yet been searched; a magical force will impose significant gravitational affects should she attempt to do so, keeping her feet on the ground.

In regards to nerfs;

[ ♆ ] Beast form. In addition to the suggested exhaustion caveat, Keaton will be restricted to one transformation per day.

[ ♆ ] Grisly Wounds is nerfed entirely.

[ ♆ ] Keaton's Beast Stone will continue to have the same limits imposed as in canon; it will need to be "restocked" upon occasion. Keaton may request auto-refills to it's power via an item request.

As per your answer to our additional question, Keaton's initial dream with the Storyteller will also include a rather vague explanation regarding recent events leading to multiple deaths. The Storyteller has done their best to revive the fallen- however, returning to life comes with some, small, side effects...

So nice of you to volunteer in taking up some of that burden. For Keaton's first week in game, he will be taking on part of Newt Geiszler's death penalty- one important aspect of his world will be missing from his memories entirely. In regards to nerfs;

[ ♆ ] Soul Perception will require a permissions post.

[ ♆ ] Anti-magic wavelength will also require a permissions post, with a 50% chance of failure in expelling any possessions. The damage caused will be reduced to severe injury, rather than the ability to outright destroy people, and will come with an exhaustion caveat.

[ ♆ ] Weapon Form will have an exhaustion caveat, in addition to a half hour time frame per day. As she is still new to the ability, she will also be restricted to sprouting one scythe from each arm, with the potential to have these restrictions lessened as her skills develop in game.

In addition, please note the following in regards to her inventory;

Pumpkin will count as one of her two companions within game. Whilst Pumpkin may retain their water breathing capabilities, they will be unable to go further than fifty feet into the ocean. Only one of her additional sets of clothing will make the transition with her, and her mobile phone will be flat.

A small wood statue of a horse might not appeal to everyone's artistic tastes, so it's a good thing that this happens to be a great deal more than a pretty trinket. And sure enough, snapping off one of the horse's four wheels will yield exactly that. Truthfully, the edges are too smooth and the angles too sharp for it to be nothing more than that. It's a dowsing rod, and one with quite a versatile use. One simply must concentrate very hard on what it is they're looking for - person, animal, place, or thing - and if it is on the island, the dowsing rod will lead you there with slow, gentle tugs, assuming it exists on a square that has already been explored. It will not, however, chart the least dangerous or even most plausible route to take. In regards to nerfs:

[ ♆ ] As per your suggestion, Akira's wildcard ability will be limited to two Personae. Additionally, their skills will be limited to five skills across both Personae.

[ ♆ ] All damage must be nerfed to "Minor" rather than Heavy/Severe.

[ ♆ ] Victory Cry, if chosen, can only be used once per day and has to be refreshed at a mana pool between uses.

[ ♆ ] However, the ability to bargain for more Skill Cards to increase Akira's skillset is possible, though they may come with nerfs. Additional skills learned will require swapping out of the loadout of five as well.

Akira's phone will be water damaged beyond usability, and will need to be repaired.
